Moving in the Summer? Here Are Five Handy Tips

Jul 16, 2021

Summer is often the season when many people choose to move as they find themselves with more time on their hands. After all, it is convenient to move when there’s no school to worry about and schedules are generally lighter for everyone. However, one of the biggest challenges of moving in the summer is the draining heat that comes with the season.

There are several ways you can free yourself from a sweaty and tiring situation. Here are some moving tips you can follow to have an easier time with your move:

Plan Your Move

Summer is notorious for price increases across all fronts because of how many people move during this season. It’s a busy time for moving companies, and you may have a hard time getting a price you like because of the spike in demand. You can avoid this by scheduling with a moving company at least six weeks ahead of your schedule. It is also advisable to take some time to find the best rates among the movers in your area.

While preparing for the big move, you should also plan the number of boxes and other packing materials you’ll need so you don’t run out. Organize things well and be as detailed as possible. Being specific becomes a blessing once you begin unpacking items in your new home.

Have a Lot of Water Ready

Even with a good ventilation system and air conditioning at the ready, there’s no escaping the heat as you move in and out of your place. Constantly moving around will have you sweating a lot, and you’ll find yourself feeling thirsty more often than not. If you ignore your need for hydration, you could end up drained too soon or worse. Having access to water throughout the move will be a life-saver.

Stock up on water bottles at both your new and old home. It’s also a good idea to offer some water to the movers assisting you.

Start the Move Early in the Morning

Starting early in the morning allows you to beat the heat. Ideally, you want your movers at your home at the first sign of light. It keeps everyone cool for longer, and you can begin moving everything before noon when the heat is at its peak.

Remember to wear lighter clothing. Keep food and water at the ready as you’ll be lifting boxes yourself.

Do It on a Weekday

The weekends have more people going out and about. They’re also busier times for movers, making moving truck rentals expensive. It is especially true when you happen to hit a summer holiday weekend. Traffic in the blazing heat may become irritating. Here are some holiday weekends you should avoid:

  • Labor Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Fourth of July

Be Mindful Of Your Packing

You should separate delicate and sensitive items. Invest in packaging materials by having bubble wrap at the ready or even extra boxes for double boxing your fragile items. The following items can break during the move if you’re not careful:

  • Electronics
  • Appliances
  • Collectibles
  • Antiques
  • Tableware
  • Glass items
  •

Turn on the AC once you reach the new home. Heat can affect some of these items if you’re not careful, damaging or warping them. Once you adjust the temperature, you won’t have to scramble trying to unpack things that have lost their original shape.

Preparation Is Your Friend

Planning and preparing for the move ahead of time will lessen the hassle, save you some money, and even make it an enjoyable experience. Keep everyone hydrated and protected from the sun. By doing any of these moving tips, you lessen the chance of experiencing any setbacks during the move.

Previously, landlords were unable to impose any payments on tenants or evict them due to the difficulties of the past year and a half. It has led to a mixed reception from both tenants and landlords. Landlords can begin their business once again after losing over a years’ worth of rent. Historically, real estate is an outstanding investment. Over time, buying and holding property can multiply a person's net worth by several times. During a sharp upswing in real estate prices, investors can gain more equity than they earned at their profession that year. However, for all of its advantages, there are circumstances in which it is smarter to rent than to buy.
