Tips for Moving During the Fall Season

Sep 21, 2021

Fall is arguably one of the best seasons to move. It comes right after summer and the expensive rental costs that come with the season, with most people settled in after trying to beat the back-to-school rush.

Fall has better temperatures and more available movers. However, there are still a few challenges you need to prepare for during this season. Adequate preparation is important, and these moving tips will help provide a smooth experience.

Clear Your Pathways

As nice as the temperatures can be, moving during the fall can be made awkward by the presence of leaves and water on the ground. While they may seem inconsequential at first, these things can get annoying once it’s time to start lifting items during the move. Puddles can even lead to slip-and-fall accidents if you’re not careful. Make sure to clean all outdoor paths and place cardboard on areas that get slippery during the season.

Move Your Utilities in Advance

Temperature drops during the fall can be surprising and can make it harder to move. Make sure electricity and gas are ready at the new home. If you’re transferring services, it can take several days for them to take effect. You want to have a warm and cozy place to move to, especially when you’re setting things up after you’ve completed the move.

Know When School Starts

Each district has changes with how they deal with school, especially concerning schedules. It’s the reason most people scramble to make their move during the summer for ample time to prepare. However, you are moving during the fall to take advantage of better conditions. One thing to note is that some regions have schools that start either early August or late August. Learning the school schedule in advance helps students not miss any lessons.

Consider Your Moving Options

For those moving during the fall, you have the option of flexibility that the summer season usually doesn’t have. You’ll want to take your time to make sure you save the most money, especially if you’re on a student budget. Since more people move during early September, you can wait until later in the month before moving to a new place.

As you’re choosing to move at a later date, you can handle other things that are equally as important in the meantime, such as discarding items you no longer need or selling things that may be hard to move. It may also be time to prepare your boxes and storage, especially for bulkier items.

Start the Move Early in the Day

One thing that many people seem to forget is that you have less daylight during the fall. As winter nears, days are shorter and nights are longer. It can get dark as early as 5 PM during the latter part of the fall. Make sure you start the move as early as possible — at the first sign of daylight if you can.

Fall Provides Many Advantages

Those who wait for the fall season get rewarded with more options, better prices, and the best weather. While moving in the winter can be cheaper, it comes with unpredictable weather conditions that can only hamper your move and your spirits. Meanwhile, a summer move is more expensive, matched with high temperatures that make every task seem much more tedious.

With that said, follow these moving tips to ensure that you lessen any surprises and unwanted costs. Maximize the fall season and make your move as easy as possible.

Evictions are starting to become the norm again as Washington state begins its steady recovery following the pandemic. Previously, landlords were unable to impose any payments on tenants or evict them due to the difficulties of the past year and a half. Now, people are returning to work and settling into normalcy despite the virus. The state government deemed that evictions could return. It has led to a mixed reception from both tenants and landlords. Landlords can begin their business once again after losing over a years’ worth of rent. And while many have recovered financially, others are still struggling. However, the government believes that the economy will be affected significantly if this moratorium goes on any longer.
